Dragon Boat Cover 2010
Late July 2010 and the Club were asked to provide safety boat cover for the local
Secklow Hundred
Club as they hosted a national league Dragon Boat Competition. 36 races occurred without incident although the Diving Officer insisted on rescuing a Blow Up Toy.
After the Dragon Boats were clear of the water, the MKSAC RIB "Redbreast" was asked to help clear the lane markers from the stinking mud bottom...

Blue Lagoon
As the weather warms up in 2010, diving at the Blue Lagoon increases in popularity. Despite the number of divers the water remains reasonably clear and Carp, Pike, Roach and Perch are seen in July.

Carnival 2010
July 2010 and, as is customary, we help local charities by collecting money in the Carnival Parade. Fine weather brought many onto the streets whilst Andy’s water cannon and "Give or I’ll shoot" attitude brought the pennies rolling in.

Tango - Weymouth
Late June 2010 and the first of three trips this year to Weymouth on dive boat
"Tango"
. A party comprising three Paul's, two Mark's and a few other divers drove down to Weymouth; Saturday saw us dive the Aeolian Sky and (owing to incoming fog) the Countess of Erne instead of the Black Hawk. Sunday was the Elena R and a drift / Scallop hunt.

Vobster Quay
With rumours that the weather on the coast was so hot that the sea had gone all green and yucky; late May 2010 saw us head for Vobster Quay near Frome. Compared to the warm weather the water felt icy cold. The viz at three metres matched that in the tropics; by comparison, at twenty metres, a number of divers seemed to be involved in an SDC (Silt Development Course). On the second dive, an unknown wreck was found. It seemd to be an Armoured Personell Carrier but appeared on none of the site maps.

RIB Shakedown
Over the winter months the RIB seemed to have developed a few minor niggles. After draining the fuel system and fiddling with the VHF Radio we took the craft to sea in mid May 2010 for a shakedown. The sea was best described as "lumpy" as we set off from Calshot slip towards Cowes. Following fish and chips and a cup of tea in Cowes we set off for a quick exploration of the River Medina. As expected, the Wreck Divers were determined to find something to explore; their urge was satisfied when they found a ship hulk and a submerged caravan.

Two wreck dives from Littlehampton
Early April 2010 and an early start for the RIB from Littlehampton. First dive site was the Northcoates at 28 metres; more by luck than judgement the shot was dropped less than a metre from the main part of the wreck. Unfortunately, the swell eight miles offshore was too much for some and only four divers dived. On return to the shore most members lay in the sun to thaw out or retired to the local "chippy"
The afternoon dive was the more sheltered and shallower Outer Mulberry. Viz on the wreck was disappointing although clearing rapidly as you moved away. A variety of items were recovered including a crab hook and two sets of weights (one of them belonging to our own divers)

Chartwork SDC
Mid March 2010 and our second Skill Development Course of the year. A day of lectures learning the ins and outs of Nautical Charts was followed by a day on the Solent putting it all into practice. Nearly sixty miles was covered in the RIB and, as a bonus, lunch was taken in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

DiverSE 2010
Mid March 2010 and off to Guildford for another action filled DiverSE. In an event to rival the Diving Officers Conference we were given updates from HQ on training, a presentation on deep cave diving and (at the other extreme) the painstaking survey of four wrecks in shallow water in Bracklesham Bay.
